15 Years in 15 Days: Day 11

Day 11 takes us to the start of the Kenya Read project! On the first day of school in Fall 2022, Paige and Quinn learned about the history of OWC. They were inspired by Amelia and Christina's 2017 project to save the HIPAfrica school in Kenya and the 3D design work from Eric Crouch's 5th grade classroom to raise money for the campaign. Paige and Quinn spent the next semester working with OWC volunteer Jeremy Gulley, and the Twins Bright school in Kenya to figure out the needs of the Twins Bright community. After this Paige and Quinn announced a project to raise $14,000 to fund the construction of a library for Twins Bright at Woodland Park's STEAM Night in January 2023. They worked out a deal with a coffee shop in Woodland Park to provide free coffee in the teacher's lounge every Friday with a donation basket left for the teachers. They also collected funds at parent nights throughout the year.

Since 2023, the effort that Paige and Quinn started has gone on to raise over $13,000 through local fundraising and campaigns through the Open World Cause. Join today and help Kenya Read cross the finish line and reach their $14,000 goal!
